sort of translation needed

hi everyone
i have a small collection of records (yeah those black shiny things that went round and round like a CD) that have instructions on how to dance to each song included with it.
I tried once before to translate the names and failed big time.
Questions for you guys:

  1. can anyone help me translate the names of these songs
  2. can you tell what style they are
  3. if they’re suitable for shamisen playing, is there any tabulature about?
  4. can i have cake ?

I’m also trying to get these onto mp3 format slowly, if anyone can help me translate i’d be grateful.

Here are some answers to your questions

  1. Translations provided below.
  2. They are min’you (folk songs), mostly from Fukushima prefecture. Most of them are also sung by the same guy – a famous folk singer named Suzuki Masao.
  3. Most of them are famous songs, likely to appear in any big collection of sheet music or tablature , others (eg. number 5 below) are not.
  4. Yes, you may have cake.

Here are the translations, or at least transliterations. The titles often don’t make much sense in direct English translation, and take a lot of explaining, so I’ll just leave them like this for now:

  1. Toshiba TF-1030:
    Sansa shigure
    Souma nihengaeshi
    Vocals: Suzuki Shoutou

  2. Purple cover:
    Tairyou bushi
    Shin souma bushi

  3. Cover with guy in crewcut (Suzuki Masao):
    (Seichou) Takeda bushi
    Takeda hishi

  4. Toshiba TF-1030: Same as above

  5. Victor MV-57:
    Imogara bokuto
    Vocals: Suzuki Masao and Nozaki Keiko
    Youkagura seriuta
    Vocals: Onishi __?

  6. Victor MC-18:
    Sansa shigure
    Souma nihengaeshi
    Vocals: Suzuki Masao

Sure, go ahead and put them up, Amanda. If they’re all min’you it won’t take me any time to write out the titles. I used to collect min’you LPs, 45s and 78s when I lived in Japan, and seeing the artwork on these sleeves brings all of that back, so thanks for posting them.

that would be wonderful, it’s so nice having a name to them. Will dig them out and take some new pictures.
I spent most of the evening on youtube listening to min’you and loving them.

Hello Gerry…these are the rest i have, i hope the lettering is clear, if not i can take some better ones, i admit i was in a rush when i took these.
Any help you can give is appreciated <3

this has really given me a push to mp3 them and learn some of the dances that are included in inserts with them.

I couldn’t read the smaller Japanese characters on the newest pics you posted. Did you shrink them to put them on the website? If so, you can send me larger versions of them if you like. Otherwise, maybe you’ll have to take separate pictures of each one, as you did with the first bunch. I’ll send you a message with my email address.
