Team Bachido 2014 - Application Packet

Ladies and gentleman, this is… Kyle Abbott. Some news / changes!

Firstly, we’ve decided that Team Bachido will be attending the Hirosaki taikai! Basically, Hirosaki has the lovely sakura park and would be a much nicer place to go than the Aomori taikai, which is urban.

This is better, I think. Not only will we be going to a more beautiful location, but several Bachido members (like Pete and Hibiki from England) are already going to Hirosaki, so we would be able to meet up with them there.

Next, the date for the Bachido Festival has been changed. It turns out the 8th wouldn’t work, so it will be held on the 6th of May.

The day after the taikai (5th) at 1pm, we will take the ferry and arrive in Sapporo at 10pm. (Note, we will not be returning to Misawa) Sorry for the schedule change.

For more information on the Bachido Festival, check out this new page!

Bachi on!!
Kyle

Edit: I tried to make a guy jumping with joy, but he got formatted to bits by the forum.

Nice! I hope this doesn’t mess up someones travel plan! I for one think this sounds incredibly epic!

Ryoukai, dude-bro! Sounds solid to me.

So, is everything else about the taikai the same, other than the change to Hirosaki - i.e. we still meet in Misawa on May 2 @ 5p for first rehearsal, we stay at Fujimi Rando, we get transported by bus/van to Hirosaki, etc.?

Also, excuse my geographical ignorance, but if someone doesn’t go on to the Festival, where are we on the day after the taikai (or where do we pick up the ferry) - in Hirosaki? at Fujimi Rando in Goshogawara? (Sorry for the question, just trying to get correct info in hopes of reworking a visit with some Hirosaki friends I had been aiming for during the original “spare days” when the Festival was on the 8th…)

And one last question - in the new Bachido Festival post, neither the Japanese poster nor the English version mentions anything about accommodations. Is Bachido and/or Nitta-san-tachi taking care of that for gaijin attendees, or are we expected to find our own place to stay?

Excellent questions, Linda!

Yes, everything else is the same. The two things that are changing are:

  1. The taikai location - Hirosaki
  2. We do not return to Misawa. The day after Hirosaki, (5th) we all drive to Hachinohe, drop off the rental vans there, and hop on the ferry nearby.

No need to worry about hotels, Nitta san will be taking care of accommodations for all of us in Sapporo.

I think it’s better to have the festival right after the taikai anyway. If all the scheduled things gets completed first, then everyone is truly free to explore and visit… methinks. Those who want can go to Tokyo, Kyoto or wherever without feeling pressure to take the plane to Sapporo in 48 hours time.

Again, I’m very happy to hear this and think it will be awesome.

Hello,
I want to join the taikai .when’s the dead line for that applications?

Hello,
I want to join the taikai .when’s the dead line for that applications?

Hello Miki, I think Kyle said it will be in March but an application before that is encouraged.

Yes!!! Please join us, Miki!! That would be great!!

If I may ask, how long have you been playing shamisen?

Ah yes, I just heard from Nitta san, the deadline is March 10th.

Karl and Kyle,
Thank you for the reply .
I’ve been playing for two and a half years. I can play some kyokubiki(tsugaru) and utazuke(Tohoku minyo).

I saw that upload video clip of Kitano-hibiki super slow virsion and I tried to play Nitta san part . I think I could do that.
I have to back after group competition on 4th.

If I can go to Aomori ,I’ll go by my car .Is it OK?

Hi Miki!
Great! I think you will really enjoy your time with Team Bachido.

Yes, it is okay to go on your own by car! If you can, please check out and fill the Application Form so Nitta san and I know exactly what you would like to do with Team Bachido - Dropbox - File Deleted

For those who may not have seen Kevin’s newest taikai message thread (it hasn’t been “sticky-ed” at the time I write this) or posts on other taikai threads here, please note that the information Kyle posted just above me is still not finalized and is currently under discussion for further change TBA (hotels, methods of transportation, etc.). Keep your eyes peeled!! (°_°)

Thank you Linda for making a note of Kevin’s update in here. Your emoji is perfect, haha!

Everything is a bit in flux as details get ironed out and options are weighed. We’re trying some “new” things out this year (I say “new” because this is only the second year we’ll have done this as a team). We’re sorry if any updates confuse you or mess with personal plans.
