I was just wondering, has anyone else ever been baffled by the six consecutive 19’s in Rokudan? After trying it for some time now, it seems that I can approximate the sounds that other people make during that part, but it’s still hard for me to convince myself that it is actually six 19’s in a row…
Hey! I had trouble with that at first too! There’s a great video of two girls playing rokudan together, I always find it by searching 六段 in YouTube. (I’m on my mobile device and can’t get videos to embed.) the video is 2 girls sitting in chairs. You can also find that recording in 3 different speeds if you google rokudan mp3.
The thing that helped me most (and if anyone thinks I’m wrong, please correct me!) was to count the six strokes like this:
(Maebachi)(eighth notes) down up:
(Ushiro bachi) (quarter notes) down down:
(Maebachi)(quarter notes) down up:
I hope you can understand what I mean, and good luck!
You know, this seems like a perfect topic for the Schoooolhouse!!
Wooooo. Also the strike, hajiki, sukui, hajiki pattern going down the neck if you are so inclined- it seems so fast when people do ittttt.
Will do!
