The Bachido Wiki

Hey everyone!

For regular contributors to the Bachido forum, you’ve noticed that many incredibly informative posts have been created, enlightening us all on topics ranging from the secret language in shamisen notes all the way to making your bachi. Unfortunately, due to the immense activity of this hot forum, these posts are buried within a few days as new posts are made. As newcomers come and ask excellent questions, excellent answers have already been composed months earlier. Folks are able to hunt through the past posts to find the well written response, but it is quite a hassle.

Thus! Luke has created the Bachido Wiki! It’s like community-contributed Articles section. When enlightening posts are made, we are able to add them to the Wiki, making this invaluable knowledge easily accessible for everyone.

Here is the link for the page. (http://bachido.com/wiki)
For anyone interested in contributing to it over time, check it out and let us know what you think. Luke said formatting and options can be changed, so if you think of anything that would make contributing easier for you, please let him/I/us know!

Here’s to the constantly evolving world of Bachido!

Bachi on!!!
Kyle

Tying this in with an app would be pretty sweet as well. :stuck_out_tongue:

At work now but… NICE!

I think we should add a Bachido Taikai Team page with names and group pictures for each year.

Awesome addition to the site im sure this will become a great resource and section of the site over time …

Great idea!

Good news! The Boy Genius Luke Abbott has inserted the previous “Overview” articles into the Wiki. For those of us (I.e, myself) who don’t know how to add to a wiki, having these examples will help us know how to correctly add information there.

One thing I’ll have to do is hunt through the forum and find those excellent posts that have gotten lost in the ocean of threads.

The important “Wiki-worthy” threads I remember are:

Shamisen for Left Handed folks

Nagauta/Jiuta Bachi (which Michael Oulette wrote something very informational about, as I recall)

Improvising with Shamisen

Does anyone else recall any Wiki-worthy posts?

Also, the current categories shown are:

Historical/Informational Articles
Instructional/How-To Articles
Resources

Do you think there should be fewer categories with more articles in them, or more categories with fewer articles in each category?

For example, if there was an article about improvisation theory, should that be in Instructional/How-To Articles, or in a new category like… Modern Shamisen, or such?

Categorizing isn’t my strongest suit, so your suggestions would be very much appreciated!

Hm just thinking from scratch what crosses my mind is something along the lines …

history and possibly historical lifestyle stories,

information about the instrument and variants and parts and accesoiries that is timeless,

what and how to play on the thing covering music and playing styles and options and some advice on how to implement them, spiritual approaches and music theory, theoretical and practical tips for learning and improvisation,

artists historical and contemporary possibly including modern lifestyle stories or anektotes for fun profiles or so,

construction/repair advice

composer / available tabs / other links

guess this would be a possible overview / also in general i would start with rather not much categories i guess should one category get a lot of entries one could split them up in subcats also later if it seems reasonable at some later point to do so …

existing crash course, lessons, articles etc could merely be referenced on the wiki pages wherever suitable or needed or some stuff could be transfered to completely become part of the wiki either way could be fine i think …

ANYWAY will surely be a great resource over time . . .

on a personal note I just wrote an introduction to shamisen on my new multitopical personal weblog

as for the shamisen section I will continue to post my favorite clips and other favorite bits and pieces there . . .

Ooh! Great ideas, BH! That would be a very good categorization, me thinks! All of those categories bring to mind certain notable posts in the forums, so that would be a great start!!

Thanks for sharing, BH! I appreciate your thoughts!

Ooh! And kudos to your new shami-blog! Haha! I’m glad Kevin & His Guns made the cut.

Hahaha! I haven’t had a laugh like this in a while! While exploring the wiki page, I clicked on “tsugaru shamisen origins,” thinking to myself, “hmm… What could possibly have caused the evolution of such a hammering, hard hitting style with seemingly relentless stamina?”

Following the link revealed a mostly blank page, with two words written as a hyperlink:

“Cheap Viagra.”

True story! Didn’t everything originate by cheap viagra?

Thanks for pointing that out, bro! I’ll tell Luke about it.

Honestly, the wiki didn’t exactly take off as fast as I thought I would. So many knowledgeable posts have been made on the forum, I thought people would rather write their great subjects on a wiki page instead of getting lost in the sea of posts. :-S

So I’m totally down to go through and format and build a few wiki pages, and after reading through the wiki guidebook, I have learned that regardless of the page from which I choose “enter edit mode,” it takes me to the “Happy new year 2015” post ()

but when I copy the link, it pastes as:

Any idea what’s going on?

Dude, that’s incredibly nice of you! I would appreciate that so much. Anything wiki related has never come very natural to me, so this would be a huge service to the community. Thank you, thank you!

Yeow, that’s curious. I’m gonna show your message to the Boy Genius right now, he probably knows what’s going down (or up, whatever the kids are saying these days)

OK, I do believe I have the wiki working now, and hopefully the spammers will be locked out now. Have at it!

Thanks Luke! I’m a little feverish right now, so I’ve committed myself to intermittent tea-soup-and shamisen, but I will take this on as a project and hopefully get all of the cool and important stuff out of the old forums! I’ve been working backwards from the very first posts, so expect an updated wiki soon!

Looking forward to your results Travis. Much appreciated!

Dude, so much the appreciate! Reviving the classics (posts) is what’s needed. So many knowledgeable gems hidden in the sea of threads, and good karma for you to jump in find them!

If there’s anything you need from me, please let me know!
