The composer thread

I’ve got the impression that young japanese people are engaging in a lot of alternative music etc. Having a shamisen in the band feels like something that would happen a lot. I have no idea though :stuck_out_tongue:

If there aren’t any more bands than Kevin Kmetz that’s both good and bad. It’s bad because there aren’t many tracks to listen to, but it’s good because we can enjoy more new music when it’s starting to grow.

Not to say there aren’t plenty of bands with Shamisen thrown in, but none even close to the degree of epic as Kevin’s body of work.
We truly are on a cusp, and it is exciting to see what will be born each day.

Thanks Grant!
I just finished writing a few new tunes. Hopefully I can share them with you all soon!

Oh no you didn’t!

…kidding! Ok fine. Now that it’s feb. 2013. Here’s something I just wrote. Haven’t really been writing much recently. But I think that’s about to change! YES! Here ya go Bachido!

beauty eh!

Wow! That was a fast response! Thanks C ! Ok now we’ve officially resurrected this thread!

Great playing as always! Thanks for sharing Kevin

Really feeling that you’re into classical pieces right now Kevin! Always epic to hear your licks and your crazy chords.

AWE-some!

Applause, Kevin san!!!

Ok I took one of my electro songs and decided to play the melody on shamisen. I haven’t really practiced it much so there’s a little improv and me being off the beat sometimes  I’m waiting for ideas of how to make into a complete song. Hope you like it.

Don’t be so modest Karl! That was awesome!

Whoa! Jeez Karl, you surprised me! (In a good way!) That was really good, and on a note of technique, your tataki is really clean!!

That really Rocks Karl! It’s indescribably Awesome to witness new Shamisen talent growing into something more and more with the passing of time! Karl Hedlund is Definately beginning to bloom as an Amazing and influential presence in the Modern world of Shamisen players today!

Thank you bros

Wowowo, electro-shamisen… I love it. Very well done!!

Here’s my arabic-shamisen music which I played all the parts:

After all sound were recorded, the main shamisen melody was difficult to hear… maybe I added too many instruments.

The middle part is inspired by the SAMURAI sword fight (imagine that!) and the violent ending!

Thanks! This was really cool Aki! I love these kind of arabic tunes and always felt the shamisen would fit right in. You proved it!

I feel I should try and do some arabic inspired too. Might take another listen through the Prince of Persia soundtrack again. It is really magical.

Whenever I started playing my shamisen, my friend David bought a shakuhachi. Now he has a shinobue as well, and all I ever hear in my mind is the music from Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles. Whenever I get my shamisen in a functioning condition again, I’m gonna spend hours with this OST
