I stumbled upon this movie (with Masahiro Nitta in it) when browsing youtube for more shamisen videos. As usual, the trailer gave away what seemed to be the whole plot, but it still seems to be a pretty entertaining movie.

I couldn’t find it on IMDB and since I don’t know japanese I don’t know how to search for it, as three string samurai didn’t give me proper results.

There’s this site called “Japan Flix” where it can be seen but it seems to be unavailable right now.

Does anyone have any more information?

All I know is that it used to be titled, “Overdrive”, and is re-released as the Three String Samurai.

I’m not sure how to get it. I was fortunate enough that a friend let me watch it. :stuck_out_tongue:

I dread the day I install that again… I own an iphone but I will probably never install ITunes again :confused:

Maybe if I can’t find the movie elsewhere I will. Or I could always watch it at work and try to keep my poker face.

masahiro and his dad both star in this movie. His dad (Hiroshi) is a serious bad-ass oni. It also features a fully functional double necked electric shamisen built by Benya specially for the movie. I have a copy of the movie, and it is a favorite of mine lol.

Maybe I’ll follow Simon’s advice and get it on ITunes in the weekend. I have a laptop collecting dust that I wouldn’t care as much about if ITunes spreads its viral code onto its harddrive.

Wow this film looks awesome but theres no way for us to see it outside the US and Canada :(, I think bachido should get a few copies to sell :stuck_out_tongue:

Its a Great film by the way. I have seen it like 15 times. Kyle, I cant believe we didn`t take the time to watch it when you guys were visiting last time for the tai kai. Shame on me for not renting it !

Hey Kev, I wrote Masahiro about getting Overdrive/3 String Samurai last month, and he said he’d look into it. He’s a little busy with recording now, so I should probably remind him.

Actually, I was able to watch it! :stuck_out_tongue: It’s definitely a fun film and has great shamisen playing.

Okay, I’ll write Masahiro again about Overdrive, and you write Nao about Birth of California Shamisen, and we’ll see who gets it first! :wink:
