Tibetan Dance Song

Hey Guys (and gals)

Been while sense I posted and I thought Id share one of the song I’ve been having fun with recently. I’ve been trying to adapt a Tibetan dance song I learned to the shamisen and its been really fun! tell me what you think and sorry for the crap sound

Sounds awesome Nathan! You are getting a real nice tone out of that shamisen aswell. What is the song normally played on???

Thanks man! Actually i learned it on the Chinese version of Shamisen called Sanxin back when i lived in China. But if its really from Tibet I doubt they use that instrument eh?

Nice! that sounds legit, Nathan! Very well done.

I’d like to try throat singing to it!

thanks man. throat singing would be tight, maybe we can hook it up next time your in Japan.

Totally!!!
Do you have access to recording equipment, btw? A year is quite a ways away, so I could always try dubbing some in (with igil as well).

I don’t at the moment. Thats gonna be my next investment though. I’m wondering if I should go for a nice mic or get that shamisen pezzo pickup you sell on this site so I can feed the sound directly into the computer. Any suggestions?

oh Man!!! That’s Excellent! Truly Awesome interpretation Nathan! Damn! I want to learn this too! On futozao though (since its all I have right now) but wow! I totally dig this ! Awesome stuff N!

LOVE this, it’s fab.
I have a book with chinese folk songs in…wonder if it’s worth trying to transcribe some to shamisen notation now!

Falsetto Yesss pleeaase!

If you have time, you could take a crack at transcribing one Chinese folk song with Karl’s Shamisen Composer and we can all make a video of our attempts. It would make a fun Bachido Challenge, methinks!

well i’d certainly have a go at it, am not that musically notation minded though so i try my best.

Isn’t the sound of the dance tune almost like it was made for shamisen though? just fits so well

Kyle: i was gonna try to transcribe this song anyway so I’m down for challenge! I wanna see what other people come up with too.

Kevin: Thanks man! Id like to try it on Futozao too whenever I get the money to buy one. Hopefully this year. But also need to work out a couple parts that Id like to improve as well.

Amanda: Yes the melody is so perfect for shamisen when I first heard it I was like “I must be play this on shamisen!” And yeah its so fun to play. Id love to hear what you’ve got in that book of yours as well.

Oooo missed this. Really nice tune! Great sound! Would love to hear some throat singing to this!

Karl: Yeah! Perfect timing too. I’ve gotten re-bitten with the recording bug and have been starting on some singles (working on Oh Death and just started on The Cuckoo yesterday), so am fully in the mode for overdubz!

On that note, you and I should also try collaborating as well, as you’re apperantely a wicked good guitarist, I hear.

Nathan: That’s an excellent question. I may not have had my pre-amp/board set up right, but I didn’t find the pick up to be good for recording (best for live amplification). For recording, I think investing in a good mic would be better.

Sure, let’s give it a go!

Sweet!

There’s a graphic designer in France who’s generously making very awesome handmade album art for the physical Stellar CD. He’s got some electric bass skillz, and I told him about the singles I’ve been making. Long story short, he’s wanting to collaborate on another single, “something modern with a city pop flavor and complex beat structure like 5/4”. Perhaps we three can collaborate on another single? Any drum kit players here?

I could see this becoming a ongoing thing. An exciting new part for Bachido - Bachido Singles! (sadly, not a matchmaking service) Basically, with the wondrous technological ability to make an album without being in the same room, inviting a max of four people per single would be a fun way to highlight members who have inclination to make a professional single (and perhaps we’d all chip in for the Gadgetbox mixing costs?)

That sounds awesome! I’m looking into mics right now and in the coming year ill be starting to learn more about mixing as well. I would love to collaborate with others and make some singles. Or if people want meet singles they can come down to Osaka and ill hook them up as well

Kyle what mic do you use for your recordings?

do-mo, aki desu.
very nice tune and great performance, Nathan. i love it.

by the way, i use “Audio-Technica” condenser mics for shamisen recording.
dewa.

Aki Thanks! Audio-Technica eh? Is there a specific model you use? or do you have multiple condenser mics?

sorry, it took me so long to reply.

AT4040

my boss, my sound engineer, has many condenser mics and he tested them out. he likes that one for the shamisen to record.

to tell you the truth, i really don’t know much about mics (technology in general)…
