Quick question - I’m getting a tsugaru shamisen with a “synthetic leather” or, more likely, plastic skin for the dou. For a beginner, on a synthetic shamisen, would a bachigawa be absolutely necessary?

Hi Ian! It wouldn’t hurt to have it.
Think of it as like a screen protector for any phone 
I’ve seen one with a ripple skin but he also puts a bachigawa
