Tokyo Drifter

Hi all,

i have just discovered that next thursday evening in nearby cinema will be screening of Tokyo Drifter, old japanese gangster film. cant believe i i haven heard about this film before. I havent seen it yet, so am even more excited to seeing it soon. i watched some trailers and love the music to it. the nagaretomo melody is awesome… i straight away decided to transcribe it to shamisen somehow, and when googling have found out that Mike Penny has already done it. Its great a love the arrangement he has done to it, I would love to have a tab for that!!

Mike?Kevin?

please!!

cheers

Right On Sid!
You should PM Mike Penny about the score in case you haven’t already.
I need to call that guy up in a few minutes so I’ll mention to him that you might need the score!

Ah~ So that is what Mike sang for Katou san’s advertisement (or whatever it is)!

Tell us how it is. Definitely looks entertaining (not to mention educational nihongo practice)

Very entertaining video kyle

wooow, I see this video long ago, when I was searching info about shamisen. I was searching the net but I didn´t found it. Amazing thanks to Kyle I didn´t need to search more  It is a very funny video jeje

edit: nagaremono - drifter, another word I know

Yeaahhh, Love that video so much. I met with it at Katoh san shop cite before and really had fun!! And in addition, I learned how you westerners see Japan and it’s culture. It is so educational and Mike’s Japanese language is great!!!
Tokyo Nagaremono is something like our Japanese pop good oldies and Katoh san must love it. It is so familiar to us Japanese, a little bit older generation, maybe 1960’s. At the same generation or little older than the Beatles.
I was not interested in Tokyo Nagaremono sung by the famous Yuujiro Ishihara, who is the younger brother of Tokyo metropolitan governor Mr. Shintaro Ishihara now. Sorry Yuujiro has passed away.
Now I come to love the song.

damit, i missed the film today…had to stay in college longer than i expected… well will watch it at home, download it somewhere from internet, its pity, cause i was looking forward to seeing it on the big screen…

i love the music. i have been listening to it since i discovered it, i am even humming the tune all the time while walking, soon i will probably have my own shamiversion for it, hehe…

while researching shamisen, monsters of shamisen and all the happenings around, its amazing how much music you guys already covered and played, you have done it all, classical, jazz, blues, even ragtime. there is a great rag on YouTube:

but I really love the music of Shamlacord

it just shows how much other than tsugaru or nagauta music can be done with shamisen!!!
great stuff
thanks guys
am enjoying the videos sooo much
