Travelling with the Hard Case

Hellooooo all

Just wondering, for those that travel internationally with their shamisen in a hard case, what are some tips to make sure everything stays alright and in one piece? My shamisen is a mitsuori, but I don’t have individual compartments for each piece… So I’m also wondering if it’s a good idea to disassemble it and just pack in the pieces with a packing material. Also it might be a silly question to follow up with, but has anyone had any issue bringing their shamisen (I have an Akatsuki) into Japan? My bachi was held up in customs when it was shipped to me (in the US) so if possible I’d like to avoid that heading over there lol.

Thanks!

The last time i traveled internationally with my instrument I used a mitsuori case; I was bringing a chuuzao but using a tsugaru case. To make sure things didn’t slide about too bad, I added a little extra packing material.

The akatsuki doesn’t include anything limited by CITES, so no worries there.
