Tsugaru Jamisen on iTunes U

Hey Guys,

I’ve been meaning to post this for a while but I keep forgetting.

Senzoku Gakuen has posted a whole bunch of videos about Japanese traditional instruments on iTunes U (all free), and they’ve got a whole section of lectures on Tsugaru Jamisen:

There’s also one on the shamisen in general if you poke around a bit.

Anyway, it’s all in Japanese, but even if you don’t speak the language, there are some nice performances and demonstrations which you all might find useful.

Enjoy!

Simon,
Thanks for sharing that link.
Btw I have been meaning to get in touch with you for a long time.
I wanted to ask you about the ten bulls composition you wrote for Shamisen and string quartet. I don’t believe I ever got a copy of it. Any chance you can post an audio link here? I’d love to share that piece with the folks here on bachido. Besides that I’d love to hear it again myself. It’s been a tremendous regret of mine that I was never issued a copy of that. I thought it was a good piece and I don’t remember my performance being too bad (but to be fair it was so long ago that I don’t remember exactly) but either way it’s a pretty epic work that displays the Shamisen being integrated in new and interesting ways so it would be perfect to have some way to give people a chance to hear it for themselves!
Anyway hopefully you will be down with sharing it here.

This is great Simon, thanks for postin!

Hey Kevin,

I just sent you a PM, but, in short, I’m sorry you didn’t get a copy of that, and I’ll send one along as soon as I can!

Oh, and of course your performance was excellent.

Oh thanks Simon,
I’ll go check my PMs now.
