Hey there Bachido members! Its been a while. My family and I would like to move to Japan. Unfortunately, I’m having some extreme difficulties with trying to find visas that we qualify under and then coming up with a plan to become a permanent resident. For those of you who have already gone through this process can you please help me. We want to move to Japan in the next 5 years.
what the heck? am I being ignored? why is no one answering but new topics keep popping up?
Hm japan i wouldnt mind a taxi driver exchange program with tokyo los angeles or santa cruz for that matter but did not stumble across any such thing nor unfortunately would i know about any permanent resident application procedures so well at least sorry but my pleasure to reply at all

I imagine most Bachido members of non-Japanese decent living here in Japan haven’t gone through the “process” you are referring to. I can speak only from my experience and say that it takes at the very least a bachelors degree and a company sponsorship to get a working VISA. Perhaps through that you could make arrangements for a family plan. But that is out of my expertise.
…am I being ignored?..
Not likely, but considering this is a site about Shamisen n’ such I don’t think most of the active members would know too much about the whole visa sponsorship ins & outs.
All I can offer is info you’ve probably already easily researched.

Otherwise, consider another one of the various veins of the inter webs… There’s bound to be something : P
Thanks for finally replying. I was starting to get really sad and a little frustrated.
I’ve been doing some research for a week or so and I know what I have to do. Its too bad there’s not an easier way…
I think Josh made a pretty good summary of why no one has been able to give you a good answer. May I ask what it is that makes you want to move there?
I’ve been in love with Japan since I was 15. I love the language, the culture, and the people seem nice. Mostly, even if I’m not able to be a geiko, I at least want to live near them. Not to mention, the beautiful shrines and festivals I’ve always dreamed of seeing. I want to watch kabuki and I want to speak the language everyday. Just in short, that’s why hahaha.
Chi,
If you don’t mind working on an American base you could try to get a job at Yokota base (in the Tokyo area) . I live in Misawa, Japan and work at Misawa Air Base. If you have a job on a base you receive Status of Forces Agreement (S.O.F.A.) which will enable you to live in Japan as long as you want.
