I have been having trouble trying to learn nagauta shamisen and was wondering if anyone knows of a teacher near the Ohio area or if anyone would be willing to teach over the net.
Well I am not the most well versed with Nagauta as I was trained in the style called Tsugaru Shamisen. However I have done a little teaching/coaching over Skype. It’s a little weird but can sometimes work. If you wanted some general Shamisen advice/instruction over the net I’d be happy to meet with you over Skype .
What type of things do you have questions about?
Hi Jessica,
I still owe you that sheet music to sakura miyotote! I’m so sorry!!! I actually have the the hauta sheet music, but its not the same as the kouta video. The one I wrote out is actually in storage at school, but Ill send you a picture of the hauta notation so you can play through it. Its similar!
I go to school in Oberlin, and would be super happy to teach you Nagauta if you are ever nearby! Would you be interested? Oberlin is a bit far from Lisbon (About 2 hours away according to google maps) but if you ever wanted to make the trip we could spend a few hours on a lesson to make it worth your time! In between trips you can take skype lessons with the amazing Kevin Kmetz and pass on some of his shami-wisdom to me!
Im going to take a picture of the notation right now and message it to you! Check your inbox~ ^^
Hah, cant message images. (Or if I can, I cant figure it out! :P) So here you go!
Tuning is San-sagari (D-G-C)
Im sorry the picture is bad quality!
Hi Jessica - well, you’ve got two great offers already, but I’ll throw mine into the mix anyway. Same as with Kevin, I don’t know much about nagauta. However, I do teach jiuta and have been teaching on the Internet for about four or five years now. So if that’s of any use to you at some point, just shout.
Thanks so much everyone. I am hopefully going to get a Tsugaru soon and since there are so many resources for learning I may learn that before attempting Nagauta again.
