Ok so dig this… Many other forums around the web have classified ads dedicated specifically to other members posting products/services geared towards other members of said forum. Could it be possible to incorporate this into our beloved Bachido? As our community grows it becomes more and more apparent that many members are very skilled luthiers/craftsmen (and craftswomen ) and have a lot to offer to others. Now this is just an idea, and let me state that my objective is NOT to take any prospective buyers from purchasing a shamisen or other accessories from BACHIDO ( the quality of which is top notch, as I can personally testify ). But seeing as how we are a global community and not everyone has the same opportunities in different countries, I humbly ask the powers that be to consider this request. I know in the past there has been issues with some members wishing to sell items on the chuko page with mixed results/ feelings, so perhaps an altogether different section specifically for member posted classifieds would be warranted? As long as we all stay civil and offer reasonable items at reasonable prices I think it could work. Please let me know what you guys think! Peace!
People have tried to sell things on bachido before and others were very rude and unaccepting of the idea. The mixing of a group community and sales has shown that it does not mix well.
If anyone wants to advertise that they can provide a specific service to the shamisen community you can talk to Kyle and have your service advertised in the store section like I have my skinning service.
Oh I thought it might work because other sites have done so very successfully whose members aren’t even close to being as nice as we all are.
It’s a good idea, Jonathan. I was hoping for something along those lines earlier. Though as Jessica said, it actually didn’t take very well. I can kind of understand it now. The forum has been a major place of sharing and free discussion, so adding sales/money things to the forum ended up out of place.
I still do think it would be nice to have for those wanting to sell their wares/unused items, but clearly needs to be separate from the forum. Perhaps it could be in the Community top bar next to Articles, Blogcast, Local? That way business topics can be included yet completely separate from the forum as we know it.
As for services, yes, as Jessica says, good to contact Bachido first.
Thoughts?

As I recall, the rudeness and unacceptability only occurred after one or two members began abusing this forum for their own purposes… Prior to that, there was no resistance to such posts, or at least not that I remember.
I am part of other forums where, as Jonathan has experienced, a separate and “moderated”, or perhaps “juried” is a better word, Vendor sub-forum has been created. The forum owners/mods require a formal application to be part of those vendor sections of the forum, and the vendor, if accepted, is required to comply with whatever the forum rules are for their vendors. Those who get accepted and who do not comply are removed from the Vendor forum promptly.
In my personal experience of those sites where such sub-fora exist (both as a forum member, and also as one who has been privileged to be accepted as and given Vendor status), there has then not been any problem with acceptance and/or rudeness, because everyone understands the code of conduct.
No one was abusing anything. Said people had permission and even consulted with Kyle before posting. Just because others were jelous or not able to obtain the items posted got rude and nasty.
Something ouside the forum would be alot better.
Whew… this would be a lot of work. :-S
Jessica: Well, there was one person who, I would say, abused it a little bit - reposting his offer so it would stay on top. Needless to say, that ruffled a few feathers.
But anywho, yes. Without stirring up the past again, off the forum would yield the most sanity and calmness.
Btw Linda, Shirley and her hubby visited a few days ago. Had a cool shamisen/koto jam. Finally getting to meet some of your friends! What great people. There will be blog.
Classifieds would be cool in a separated section anytime I think and there as long as people refrain from posting their item more than once it should be fine . . . maybe this would be a good rule that anyone who has something to offer makes one post about it there and anyone interested can send a message to the vendor with questions for further details and negotiations etc . . . so the section would be a good overview of items that are on offer without any small talk posts in between . . .

See, didn’t I tell you so ages ago?!? Just imagine if you had believed me before now, you and Shirley could’ve been jammin’ for
ages already. (Oh, in case she didn’t mention it, of course Shirley also plays jiuta shamisen, so maybe you can do a shami/shami jam next time.)
Well, things have their time and place. My skills have definitely gotten better in the past year, so it’s good that our first connection-establishing jam occurred when I achieved flexibility to do something other than the tsugaru scale.
She did mention it. Actually, her son’s jiuta shamisen’s kawa had ruptured and might have it reskinned with Fibersen! I look forward to meeting him as well. Then we’ll have shami/shami/koto jam!
Or maybe you can come to Santa Cruz and join in too? I promise we’ll play something with notation.

Brian also plays some shakuhachi, and sax, too. So it’ll be quite the party! (BTW, I referred Shirley and her mother and a kokyu player here in Toronto to you for kawahari, hope you get business out of it.)
Or maybe you can come to Santa Cruz and join in too?
Oh, here we go again. Yes, I can come to Santa Cruz and join, too. (But, as we discuss every time this comes up, it’s not like I can just drop in around the corner for tea/coffee, ya know. It kind of needs a little planning, a seat sale, a reason to come, etc. …)
Anyway, I thought you and I were aiming for Tokyo!?
I promise we’ll play something with notation.
You’re a bad boy! I played piano (and flute) by ear before your parents were even a twinkle in each others’ eyes. I don’t need notation if I’m playing koto. And fyi, I probably don’t really need notation for shamisen, especially if I get a chance to hear/see what someone wants me to play. The issue is improvising - that’s my weak point. Actually, I’m almost passable at it on koto now. On shamisen, thought, I have way less confidence, but give me a chance - I’m workin’ on it! (^o^)
