Bachido Shamisen Haiku

Sorry for this… But I feel really corny right now what with the winter solstice/ planetary alignment /beginning of a new universal cycle upon us, so I thought I’d post something different here.

I apologize to all my Japanese friends as these conform to my Western knowledge of syllables and not the traditional Japanese on.

They are also not very good, and they may not contain all the elements you would expect from haiku, but… Well I don’t really care.

The first two are a classic 5-7-5 syllable structure and the third is an unorthodox 6-8-5 syllable structure.

1.How my heart leaps now!

The sound of the shamisen

And friends like these here

2.Heavens unity

Hear the three taste strings ring forth

All as it should be

3.And who can tell you friend?

Where end begins, beginning ends

If you are The Love

So whatcha got? ( That’s not part of one lol)

What is this music?
A sacred geometry
Only bachido.

A winter solstice
The three strings of Shamisen
Tonight, something new.

Third eye opening.
A new world starts tomorrow
What will we now see?

Beautiful! Thank you for participating Kevin. I dedicate this next one to you, (although I’ve never been there).

Cold snow in my eyes

The winds of Aomori

Blowing from the East

Haha! Thanks! Just came in from walking my dog outside . It’s funny. I literally just lived that haiku .

Funny I could picture it too… You just made my day.

The wind whispers
A bachi’s journey begins
Alluring impact

Six steps on three strings
make this traditional piece
we call rokudan

Step one to step three
Challenge our technical skill
and proper bachi

step four to step six
Strengthen the mind and spirit
And set your heart free

Eastern tradition
meets our western ambition
And we spread our wings

Lonely winter’s eve.
Do I hear silken strings,
Or the plover’s cry?

Ooh! Great thread Jonathan!

Calling friends, burning bridges
at eleven-fifty
starting to regret

(well, that was funnier in my head)

Tsugaru is good?
Jiuta or nagauta?
Let Nog fill the cracks!

(have been craving egg nog this week)

The Bachido spirit
Coffee, monkeys washing cats
Oh right, shamisen.

. . . overlooking kyle’s monkey washing cats contribution I can only say awesome . . . I checked this out this morning in the car first thing as it happened via my phone I am new to this smartphone business and what can I say those haikus definitely contributed to making my day too and anyway just awesome jonathan (and follow ups which I see now) awesome . . .

so I guess . . . aehem Kyle the competition for a BACHIDO CREED is on . . .

From caterpillar
To yellow silk strings to play.
Who knew it could be?

Animal died, yet
Our ears are filled with music.
Thank you for your gift.

Build a shamisen.
Kyle did - look, what a surprise!
Bachido is here.

And one just for Kyle, in answer to your post above:

Regret is futile.
You’ll be assimilated.
Play your shamisen!

Thanks for your kind words B H! I’ve been touched by how many of you have come out with your haikus! Come on Bachido, be a cornball like the rest of us, after all…
