Geisha reunited with shamisen lost in tsunami

There’s a story on Aljazeera today that might be of interest to some in the bachido community:

“Geisha reunited with shamisen lost in tsunami: Last surviving geisha in Japanese town reunited with beloved musical instrument lost in 2011 disaster.”

Edit: link shortened. —Luke

awesome

Wow, what luck! (I mean, considering all that happened)

That’s cool! One more reason to have the shamisen stored in a hard case I say.

well like in case of not thinking about all that happened for a moment this is a very funny comment

Well, they did say it was repaired. Indeed, a good reason for a hard case, but it’s not waterproof.

Thanks to the hard case that probably only meant water damage to the skin and polishing the metal parts. If that thing would have been in a soft case when the house ceiling came crashing down I don’t think it would have been repairable

I’m really just happy for her and thought on the positive effects of a hard case.

that’s epic! last surviving geisha? as in really the LAST real geisha on earth? ( sorry for probs sounding like a retard :DDD)

No, she was the only geisha left in the town of Kamaishi. There are still working geisha in numerous towns/cities around Japan, and still people “signing up” to learn to be geisha to this day (although nothing like the numbers there were a decade or two ago…).

hmm thanks Linda for straightening that out :stuck_out_tongue: but still the story is touching

yes a very touching story indeed I actually did an off topic post on my snowboard site about the shamisen where I included that clip (I will let you know about this shamisen promotion once the new site version is ready which might take up to another month or so) and I shall check youtube for a good geisha documentary
