Gidayu Shamisen on ebay

for anyone interested in this, saw it and thought it was unusual

leather kawahari is interesting o:
whatcha think it sounds like?

i saw it and i think it’s gidayu, i’m wondering if it would have a slightly deeper tone and/or louder for some reason.
i tried finding something to listen to so i could compare but had no luck

same

ah, this one has been brought up on here before. It’s not a shamisen in the traditional sense, the strings are made from steel and apparently the neck has some sort of lacquer on it. Skin is some kind of plastic, it looks good for the price but it might not quite play like a shamisen. You would defo have the change the strings and get the lacquer. Can anyone remember what the original thread was called? Someone bought it a while back

Marvin (and others) got that one -

It seems fine for the price… but like getting an espresso grinder, problems must be expected for anything in the $200 range. It’s only when you get into the $900 (Mazzer Mini E) range do you truly get what you pay for: a hassle-free experience.

Bottom line: I think it’s better than nothing.

didn’t appeal to me personally, i’m trying to go for another seller and have reskinning done by jessica in calf.
just thought it was a different looking from the usual style.

Heyya amanda ^^ i’m close with the seller your thinking of buying from right now, and would like to show you every pic of every one of his shamisens he is selling and sell later, if your interested

o yes please, wouldn’t mind at all, drop me a message, i’ll pm you my email.

^^ sounds good  will put them all in a pack now

Cana, You’re close with the seller??

Last year, I wrote him, asking if he wanted to use my precise dimensions, (as long as he’s calling them shamisen, might as well be making them the correct size). I offered them for free, but he didn’t respond. :-S

o.O weird… hes the dude i’m getting a shamisen from haha, i know some of his shamisen are off *abit hes told me himself) by a centimeter but thats about it and one has a small fix on the edge of the front skin about where your wrist will be.

He has said the one I have is the greatest one hes ever sold
hmm ill measure up my shamisen for you when i get it and get loads of pics and we can give him the measurements, and maybe advise a more common language other then itallian xD;; afterall he is japanese…

It could be a man thing kyle haha, maybes hes stubborn and doesnt wanna ask for directions type thing… lol

Not to sound negative but that sounds like the classic “Special price for you my friend” salesman :stuck_out_tongue:

The problem with having the wrong size of the neck is that your muscle memories will learn the instrument wrong. Of course with some practice your brain can adapt, but might as well save yourself the trouble of learning the wrong positions.

true, but hes telling me all the flaws of everyone of his next shamisens, and i have yet to see any on mine save the oddly coloured skin everyone considers weird like i do, haha

the flaws can be fixed easilly just needa sand it down on the sao on some, and one of them he put the sao together wrong i’m pretty sure, but i could be wrong and its just a centimeter off and could be sanded,

i’m not sure whether or not the neck positions on mine are odd yet or not, Will post loads of pics when i get it.

For the price i paid i probably wouldnt complain if my shamisen was rabbit skin haha

shamisen are off a bit

A bit… 笑 I don’t mean to sound like a snob, but some of the pieces are off by more than a bit. The kamigoma should be made out of metal, as well.

He told me they are made in China/Korea. Hence the sanxian itomaki.

It could be a man thing kyle haha, maybes hes stubborn and doesnt wanna ask for directions type thing… lol

Haha! True true. I recognize that I wasn’t as patient as I could’ve been. If you want to get on someone’s good side, you don’t insult his work by asking if he wants to have “better” designs. I know that personally because when I was younger, I made some sort of artsy project and after completion, Luke, wanting to “help”, asked if I wanted him to make it better. Ooh I got so pissed. Guess it runs in the family.

So, I accept that it’s my fault for getting on the wrong foot. (I was excited, what can I say? ) I did write him a few days later and apologized, but still no response.

Again, I can’t really talk shite about it because for $200, it’s pretty fantastic. Shamisen, bachi, koma, case? I can only assume he makes some profit, so he must be getting them for a really cheap price.

Bachido Beginner Shamisen!!! Come on stupid C.A.D!!!

Not to sound negative but that sounds like the classic “Special price for you my friend” salesman :stuck_out_tongue:

Perhaps Bachido Store should start offering “Nice Face Discounts.”

hehe, they should be made out of metal yes ^^ would be stronger, But are yours made out of metal? i do remember grants was, i have yet to see inside the shamisens in your closet.

Is the metal kamigoma similar to acting as a truss rod? or can have the same effect as in a guitar etc?
I know wood resonates pretty darn well, having a full wood neck out of the same piece it would resonate all through the wood, where the metal kamigoma seems to be a cap at the edge of a wooden kamigoma, I dont think it would make much a difference in sound till i got to hold each and test out both.

kouki wood, bachi, koma, case hehe i wonder where his profit is though he must be getting them dirt cheap…
Maybe kyle your dreams have been answered and there is a secret shamisen factory somewhere (probably in china)

nice face discounts sound awesome hehe :stuck_out_tongue:

I have all the pictures of his current shamisen at the moment the ones he has now and the ones he will sell later after abit of repair,
some are off, but i think i could get them right aslong as the unsymetrical’ness doesnt run too deep haha

Ah, it’s actually more a matter of tone than strength, I think. Even made from wood, it should last a long time, but the soft material will make the tone muddier. Being that the strings are nylon/silk, the metal kamigoma helps make the strings sound clear as possible.

kouki wood, bachi, koma, case hehe i wonder where his profit is though he must be getting them dirt cheap…

Yeah, especially for the professional looking soft case!
I’m not sure what the wood is, but it’s certainly not kouki. Being endangered 'n all, it couldn’t be obtained for less than $500, I believe. The wood the ebay guy used is stained to give that sexy red appearance.

I sure hope so! Papa suggested perhaps Haiti as well. He said it’d be almost humanitarian of Bachido to have them made there. So many people there, no doubt skilled woodworkers too, are desperate for work and would gladly welcome any opportunity for our business. With my CAD designs (after I make them) I think they could be made rather consistent. I mean, I had zero woodworking skills when I made my first one, and I bet it could’ve been more exact if I had real blueprints.

I got one from him, I haven’t gotten it yet, but I just wanted one that I could get my hands on and try and make a shamisen later.

Kyle, I got your book!!! I can’t wait for it to come in the mail!!!
