Happy Birthday to...

I realize I might be pulling a big faux-pah here, but I’d like to embarrass super-active Bachido member Lorraine by wishing her a shamazingly happy birthday!

The happiest birthday wishes to you, Lorraine! It’s wonderful to watch your understanding and knowlege of shamisen grow with each day. Thanks for being a big part of the Bachido family!

Bachi on!!

Happy Birthdy Lorraine! Bachi On as we say! Hope you had an Awesome B day!

Oh my god, you guys!! I JUST saw this now - 4 days later! Thank you!!! XOXOXOXOXO!! Seriously, this is just as good as my other birthday present (from my mom - I haven’t got it yet) …

get ready …

HAHAHA - yes, I finally ordered the pink bachi - now I need pink itomaki, and we’re good to go …

Seriously, thanks guys! It was a great birthday! Even better today.

P.S. Man, I was a hot mess in this photo, lol! I was demonstrating how the bachi could also be used as a cookie cutter! hahahaha - Hope to meet you all in person someday - with makeup and nice clothes on, LOL! XOXO!!

gah i so need a bachi im fed up with going at it with a guitar pick … seriously scanning the local market for 1 euro kitchen spatulas …

happy birthday!!!

I bought myself the purple bachi as a birthday gift (mine was on the 7th). I recived it last friday at work 15 min. After I received the Verdancy album from Reigen Fuji sent by Kyle. What a coincidence!

This new bachi is way more heavy than my wooden bachi but I’m getting used to it and I feel the difference in flexibility that make it smoother.

If you get it, I hope you’ll enjoy playing with it as much as I do. (Just for info, the custom fees for Canada was about 20$).

Happy Birthday!

hahahaha - Hope to meet you all in person someday - with makeup and nice clothes on, LOL! XOXO!!

And cookies too!

What a great mother you have! Please take some video of your new bachi and let us know what you think of it! I’m very intrigued (but as you know, couldn’t buy it myself).

Jacinthe: Ah, you bought the same/similar bachi? Interesting, it doesn’t look that heavy from the picture, but they must have some kind of weight inside. Is the sound sharp/clean? I hope it lasts a long time!

Glad Verdancy came safely too! Reigen is really touched that you (and others) are checking out his CD. It means a lot to him!

BH: Seriously, nothing wrong with using a spatula, ice scraper or putty knife! You can adjust the shape of the tool to match the shape of bachi you want. As long as it won’t cut the strings or skin, no reason not to try!

For the bachi, the playing feels smoother than with my previous wood bachi. Strangely, I cannot find a better word than smooth for the sound too. Maybe I could say it is rounder than wood…

I love it anyway!

Kyle, when I opened the package, there was a big 重 written on the plastic bag of the bachi and I feel it is at least 1.5 times heavier than my wooden one.

i tried shaping a bamboo kitchen spatula earlier and will try something again or at least a simple plastic one should be possible to order once im beyond the changing of flat expenses

BH - why don’t you do like these guys? When they don’t have bachi available, they do this …

Jacinthe - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! Woohoo, another Virgo.

I used to (well, still have, although it’s all deformed after I dropped it and tried to fix it, lol) a plastic bachi, and it was actually my favorite. It was VERY heavy and VERY big (I notched it to make it more comfortable). The plastic bachi are … slickery … they feel great! I don’t know why people think they’re cheap.

I won’t be getting mine until October sometime - it takes a loooooong time to get to California from Japan.

Hopefully, I will have my nagauta skinned by then - maybe I can make doukake and neo and such to match the pink bachi! I’ll make sure to post a photo.

XOXO

BH - seriously, though - I buy wooden spatulas from the dollar store all the time (my husband has a tendency to burn them) - could you not sand one of those down into a bachi shape?

I got my bachi. Only ONE WEEK TURNAROUND to USA from Japan! I love this guy! - he was really nice, too - we wrote a couple of personal notes back and forth. Based on his eBay store, I don’t think he’s a shamisen maker. I don’t know who made these bachi, but I’d like to find out!

It’s BEAUTIFUL - the handle is much thicker than my present plastic/bekkou bachi, but it weighs about the same. The blade is wider, and thicker as well, so I had to adjust my grip a little bit, although, the action on the strings is about the same, and it’s shorter, so again, I had to adjust for the different balance. Moving from a wooden to a plastic bachi is jarring, but since I have had my bekkou/plastic one for a while now, this isn’t much different …

But OOHHHHHH, It’s SOOO PURTY!!

Wider and Thicker Blade

Oh YES - me likie!! Now I need matching itomaki …
