Kyle...Shamisen...and Itomaki

Kyle, can you give me instructions on how to make the hole for the Ito on the Itomaki?

thanks

Does the kind of the string (tetron, silk or nylon) change the sound quality?

Because if yes,I think silk will be the best sound.

Is a set of Ichi no Ito-Silk,Ni no Ito-silk and San no Ito -Nylon a good choice? Thanks.

I may order some sanshin itomaki soon (karakui)

They don’t come with a hole for the ito (gen)

I think the hole is made the same way as shamisen itomaki.

Do you guys can help me?

Anyone who already made a shamisen may know.

Some people who play shamisen In Brazil told me that Shamisen Ito made of silk sound The best.

They said that tetron sound like plastic.

Is that true?

as for me I thought about getting ichi silk - ni tetoron - san nylon . . . and that all silk would be rather too fragile for tsugaru action . . .

Shinji:
I used a 1mm drill bit for drilling holes in the itomakis of my nagauta shamisen. 1mm hole is quite big but better than nothing.

Yeah, I just use a drill as well, adjusting the bit to fit the ito size.

would the karakui of sanshin fit on a shamisen?

I think the pegs of karakui are a bit thinner than itomaki, and so wouldn’t fit in the holes. :frowning:
