Notice some hearing loss from playing tsugaru shamisen? Well, now you can compensate by making it louder!
Haha! I like that meme.
Well, we can provide!
I was really impressed with the sound quality. Like pickups on most acoustic instruments though, feedback is pretty gnarly if cranked up for metal or for playing with loud drummers.
Iāve heard there are pedals that can quell it though.
Ah, note that the price listed is just an estimate until I hear back from Masahiro.
I have tried the much cheaper AXL piezo pickup with less-than favorable results.
Could it be because half of the mic wasnāt on the dou frame? Perhaps. I should try other varieties as well. For now though, this is one that does sound decent and officially āshamisen compatibleā (though perhaps is the same?) so is safe to offer for now,
anyway I would say this one also looks officially āshamisen compatibleā or in other words this one looks very nice I like the compact white coating of the piezo disc . . . of course I wonder in general about why any such pickup would cost more than 10 dollars ever since I deconstructed one on the one hand and bought a piezo disc for a dollar (granted I also bought a soldering iron) and made my own pickup on the other hand but I guess some optimization could be in there and it looks great so whenever I would buy one I am pretty sure I would want to buy this one . . .
Yeah, it looks that way to me as well. Iād really like to lower the price, if possible but still just want to try it out before putting it on the site. If anyone does try, let make a video and show us!

would anyone maybe more serious than me so far know btw which piezo discs or combinations of discs would be recommendable for such (pickup in general) use? all I know is they are available in different sizes and do have different frequency ranges or so . . .
Iāve bought the electric pickup on e-bay but I have a little problem: even though I left it all night to make sure it stays, the metal piece didnāt held longer than a hour when I tried it.
I know it is glued with 2 sides sticker, but Iām wondering if I can use any 2 sides sticker because Iām worrying for the wood of my shamisen⦠Anyone has any clue about this?
Hi Jacinthe!
Thatās odd that it came off. I used to have one on mine, and it stayed on just fine. Did you recently put oil or polish (or other) on your dou? Perhaps that is whatās preventing good adhesion.
I canāt guarantee, but I think any two-sided sticker (or similar sticky foam piece) would be fine. The dou is lacquered, so the glue wouldnāt be getting into the wood pores.
What kind of double sided stickers were you planning to use? Any pictures?
I donāt know what type. I was asking prior going to shop for one. I donāt even know where I can find some. Maybe I will ask my friend who works in an Art stuff store to tell me if they have some in stock.
I didnāt polish or anything. The wood of my shamisen is as it was one year ago when I bought it.
Iāll ask my friend about it. I didnāt think about asking him before but Iāll do that today.
