shamisen skin

looking to re-skin a shamisen myself, but I can not find where to buy the skin. Anyone have any ideas or contacts they can give me. Want to go synthetic.

I’m not sure if this will work, I’ve seen this idea proposed many times, but you could try Remo Banjo skin. But again, it may not work

Been there, done that. Did that with my first shamisen. Not quite up to par

Did you look at the info on skin replacement in the store section? That might help you out.

Yep but that’s for replacement, I want to do self

Some folk instrument suppliers sell goat vellum for banjos which i used to skin my shamisen successfully. Another option is bhodran skin which may be thinner.(pronounced boran, irish drum)

Hi Gary!
Please check Ebay. I’ve ordered white, thin goat skin from quality1trader many times. They have different sizes. The prices are very reasonable.

Do we need a 20" round size of leather for the reskin? Would a 12 or 14 inch round size work?

If I recall correctly I have used 14" goat drum skins
