ten thousand appologies

Very sorry i havent been able to get on bachido and reply to anyone as of late just moved and only just a minute ago got internet in the house.

my room is almost 100% decorated… but im getting the landlord to make me a display case / drawers for my shamisen and wall hangers for all my instruments.
just found out my video views on my youtube are near 500 now haha

also my yubikake and hiza gomu arrived both in pink which is awesome… the hiza gomu stuck right to my shamisen perfectly i got spare strings and a bachigawa i dont know how to put on

its like a little piece of paper with a seal on it…?

Welcome back, Cana! I was a bit worried about you had not come up for a while. It is my relief !

Ahh i thought that was why you hadn’t been around!
Glad the move went well.

Ask your landlord to make another shamisen for you as well. He seems to be generous so it’s worth a try

then try to get a free shamisen for every Bachido members o/

Welcome back, Cana! Indeed, I was a little worried why we haven’t heard from you in a while. Then I remembered that you were moving!

Luucccckkkyyy!!! Yeah, sounds like your landlord is a cool guy. Does he want to make shamisen for all of us!? :stuck_out_tongue:

Applying Bachigawa is just like putting a screen seal on a smartphone. Peel the paper off the seal, and apply it directly under where the strings will be (remove the strings first). Make sure to apply it evenly so there are no wrinkles. It’s just like a seal for a smartphone.

then try to get a free shamisen for every Bachido members o/

Now we’re talking.

Welcome back Cana!

Thank you all  and thank you for the warm welcome backs an the concern… my landlord would be awesome if he did do that… sadly i think he would only do it if it benefitted the house lol

ill try an find an excuse… buuuuut maybe :stuck_out_tongue: lol

Going to go put on my bachigawa, Also when i wear my fukake… it feels odd x.x and somtimes gets in the way and it slips down abit lolz

Also! my shamisen is abit grimey in places… an odd place but its grimey on the headpiece…?

Does a glasses cleaning cloth work as a polishing cloth? also how do i remove grime? sanding?water? damp cloth?

ooooooooooohhh you’ve been playing without a bachigawa, rebel lol

XD yep lolz and does it really go right underneath strings ? and not abit slid out of the san no ito?

ooooooooooohhh you’ve been playing without a bachigawa, rebel lol

I have played for 9 months without one.

Fun fact: Masahiro and Hiroshi Nitta? They don’t use bachikawa (I was surprised). Hiroshi said that if the skin is good enough, a bachikawa isn’t necessary.

That’s more a testament that Karl and the Nittas can afford really, really good skin.

I’ve noticed two veeery small and thin “flakes” that have opened up due to my bachi striking. However I have analyzed them and it looks like it doesn’t matter at all for the strength of the skin as it’s so much thicker.

If the skin breaks due to my striking there, I will realize that it is useful

Also, I believe that washed hands and a clean bachi will make it last much longer, and you will be able to avoid the ugly stains on the skin as well.

oo ^.^ will the bachigawa make it sound different though?

my cat skin is very very strong not one hole or small ding, will keep in mind to keep my bachi clean but should i use a wax to keep the grime off? or not reccomended?

can someone email me a pic of the bachigawa placement please?

I would just be too paranoid not use one I guess.
You’re right about cleans hand etc, moisture seems to be the real skin killer!

Yikes! Be careful buddy. I’m only speculating, but I think that if the bachi hits the flaked areas again, it’ll create a tiny but deeper pit in the skin. :-S James’ (my espresso buddy) shamisen skin got a few flakes like that, and wanted a bachigawa as he couldn’t afford a reskinning.

Anyhow, sounds like you understand that you’ve been warned.

Speaking of washing. I learned that cleaning the skin with a lightly damp (I mean, wrung out as tight as you can) is actually fine. I mean, it’s not something you want to do often, but if you get a smudge on it, using a lightly damp towel will not damage the skin.

Cana: I’ll post a pic of the bachigawa placement here tomorrow. Do you have a tsugaru bachigawa or nagauta bachigawa? (looks like a half-moon shape)

I don’t know if it’s subcoincious but I tend to prefer not using a bachi gawa. I think it’s a good investment when you are starting out etc. but a few years ago I had one of my shamis reskinned and didn’t bother putting the bachi gawa on . It somehow felt better although I can’t testify on wether or not the sound or tone actually changed or improved. anyway for now I think it’s a good idea for you, Cana as it may add to the life of the skin perhaps (as it will protect from any damage from the bachi etc.)

Interesting!! Well, if you’ve had that skin for a few years without a bachikawa, it should be fine. Gosh, maybe I’ll stop using one. I’m sure it affects the tone (perhaps barely noticeable), which I’d be fine with if the skin lasts longer.
