The Bachido Mon

Please forgive me for my rough reading and shallow understanding of the mon.

Let me give you my personal image of the General Mon as an aged Japanese female, it seems so presumptuous to comment though, it is just for Japanese men going to fight or traditional family identity.
I would be very happy whichever mon is voted, for ladies, the color can be brighter, say, pink, red or any happy one. Black and white has so dark traditional image and looks stiff.
My opinion is so simple and bold, and even drunk right now. Best season for beer (^_^;) sorry but still serious.

I would like to hear from, Linda, Cana, Anne, Evin and whoever else? Rare ladies on Bachido.
Thank you.

^.^ honoured to be considered here, i’m no lady but i would personally love a pink mon
lolz i’m always mistaken for a lady so it doesnt bug me at all haha

Oh, my dear Cana. Terribly sorry for my misunderstanding.
To tell you the truth, I thought you were a beautiful boy at first, and second and last, as you mention on your boy friend, I changed my mind you are a boyish pretty girl.
In any case, you are good looking.

I love all of the mons!!! I particularly love the one with the chrysanthemum-looking symbol behind the threee bachi symbols.
Maybe one day I’ll make a maiko’s obi in my textile class and could paint that on it lol

i would love a cherryblossom design… thats a bachi

Me too! me too! lol

How about we propose divisions of bachido but all part of the main section o: ? we could have different mon’s but they all have the bachido mon somewhere on each piece so were all united through bachido but unique in that we are all apart of a giant division of the bachido spread across the world?

like guilds or groups/ familys of each of us all apart of the main cause  each a different line of each family of the bachido tree :stuck_out_tongue:

there would be a couple benefits to this, not only being able to have loads of creativity in our own sigls/ crests.

The cherryblossom as the bachi with the world as its instrument.

I would love to draw this as the cherryblossom always inspired me
I would love to play and keep every folk instrument alive, keeping together and saving the history of each song. Not forgetting to add in my own footprint into what I enjoy.

let me know what you think

I gotta go with the simple 3 bachi man.
I don’t like the flowery ones, mainly because the design and colour is way too cold for the flower to be pretty. Also, the flowers have nothing to do with shamisen, I understand it looks Japanese-y, but we are an international society, the simple one is neutral and sharp

Hey, so how have people been putting in images? I made a rough version of my own based on what people have been saying.

First of all, out of the versions presented so far, I definitely like the first, simple one best. Mostly for the reasons other people have said, like they look busy, the other designs don’t balance well with the bachi, etc. Also, the chrysanthemum-y idea is interesting, but I don’t know if they even do greyscale mons like that. I feel like it’s always just color-1, color-2. I could be wrong, though. I dunno.

However, while I think the first one is the best, you do run into the nuclear problem. It does look a lot like it. Trying to get around that, I ran with Norm’s string idea (plus the whole “three bachi, three strings”) deal and made me own. How I upload?

Maybe dis…?

Oh shiz, I figured it out!

Anyway, I’m not saying this is better or anything, it’s just a midway between the stark emptiness of the first version and the fullness (business?) of the other two. I also think it’s still traditional enough in its simplicity/abstraction. Honestly, I’m still not sure what to say if someone were to ask “Why are there three?” But hey, it looks good with three, and uh…cuz we’re a community…?

Also, about that sakura one… I get the idea behind it, but having the petals split up like that makes the whole thing look a little… well, lemme put it this way: “Is that a bachi in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?”

That’s a good take on it, Jamie. Masahiro sent this image this morning, suggesting the sakura blossom, but the outer border reminds me of yours. Perhaps it could replace the circle?

Simple explanation. Humor is best in sets of three, third times the charm, breakfast, lunch and dinner, etc… it just makes sense! :stuck_out_tongue:

Papa tried making a mon with just one bachi, but that looked lonely to me. Two bachi (crossed like swords) has already been done a lot, and four bachi looks like a cross. Like Gwyn said, three gives it that mitsu-tomoe feel.

well, lemme put it this way: “Is that a bachi in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?”

Haha!! Point taken. Before Masahiro told me they were sakura blossoms, I thought they were hearts.

I’m not a big fan of the sakura because, like Kevin said, it’s just sooo close to Masahiro’s mon (which is a lovely mon, just too similar)

Well, until Linda, Amanda or the other lovely ladies of Bachido submit their opinion, I think it’s safe to say that the non-flower version is the most popular.

Kyoko, solid black and white is quite harsh, but know that this is just the simplest version, which would be on a patch or something. We can always add some color to give it a little more life, like what I did with Masahiro’s mon for the Nitta Collection.

So, with an emphases on not detracting from the bachi, while still trying different options to fill the void, how can we make it appear less like a steering wheel?

Haha, I was considering that exact mon when figuring out what to do about my own mon. Turns out it’s Sakamoto Ryoma’s, so in the end I thought it woulda been a little weird for me to just take it. The flower inside, though, is actually a Chinese bellflower, or “kikyou” (桔梗)in Japanese. (If anybody watches Inuyasha, bam, there you go.) I did end up using that flower in my mon since it kinda looks like the mountain laurel, the state flower of both Pennsylvania, where I’m from, and Connecticut, where my dad’s from. Incidentally, for the outside element, I used a ring of wisteria (“fuji,” 藤) since it kinda looks like lilac, the state flower of New Hampshire, where my mom’s from.

Hmmm, it’s a tough problem with the steering wheel. What about this?

Another cool story. I didn’t know Masahiro Nitta was a descendent of a samurai clan. I was checking out the various clan mons to get some inspiration for a serious attempt at solving our problems, when I saw the same mon as the one you said was Masahiro’s.

The clan that had that symbol was http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sakai_clan

It says that the Sakai clan came from the Nitta branch of the Minamoto clan.
