What is my name?

Hi Bachido,

its Sid here, Sid Sipidus as previously known here on Bachido. After many misunderstandings and confusion caused by me using many different names, such as Sid, Sidney or Martin, Matt, I realized that I should let everyone know what my real name is… Well it is Matej Kolenič… for you who can read katakana:
マチェイ コレニッチ, so yeah my name is マチェイ.
but you can keep calling me Sid if you wish and got used to already, i dont mind but keep in mind that my name is マチェイ コレニッチ…

PS: I know I should have written this earlier, but I am planning to go to Tokyo tomorrow, wanna check out the Shamisen Katoh Store…was wandering if anybody can recommend me some other shamisen shops in the Tokyo area. I’ve heard of the Mikado in Asakusa. Where exactly it is? well will ask around and look for it as well. anything else? its probably too late to be asking now, cause am leaving tmrw morning, but perhaps i get lucky…

so cheers …

After a quick Google search, I found this shop if you want to check it out. That sounds like fun, I have always wanted to go to Japan. I hope you have a great time.

Kaihodo is a bachi specialty store in Edogawa-ku, northeast Tokyo. The people there are really nice and you can try bachi after bachi after bachi. They even offer Bachido discounts! I know Kevin, Kyle and I have bought bachi from them, and maybe Adrian too? They travel to most of the big events, so if you don’t get a chance to visit their headquarters, then you should be able to catch them at one of the taikais.

Welcome to Bachido, Matej! Truly, we’re all friends here, so I’m glad you’re displaying your real name!

Niki Shamisen is a place I’ve always wanted to go. - http://www.syamisen.com/
I’m friends with Niki san on facebook, and he had given permission to use pictures of his itomaki in an early version of Shamisen of Japan. I’ve always wanted to see his shop, yet somehow I’ve always been a little scared to go to shamisen shops. I have no idea why. But now you can go in my place! :stuck_out_tongue:

The mystery of Sid has been revealed!

so i went to Katoh-store and spent quite a long time there. I learned a lot and tried few shamisens. They are super nice and friendly there… Katoh-san says hello to everybody on Bachido!!!

Also went to another very small shop recommended by Jack, but did not stay too long, had a quick peek, chat and left…

I arrived to Asakusa very late, most of the shops were closed so did not find the Mikado store.

Thanks for the tips will check it out some another time…hmm especially Kaihodo store Jamie has recommended. I would love to try out different bachi after bachi after bachi… my bachi is quite small and since I have big hands I think bigger would be more suitable. I like the feel of my bachi thou, I am just curious…

cheerio!

Matej, Mikado is a pretty small store. It’s just about across the lane/road from Ryokan Shigetsu (which is fairly well known to gaijin travellers…) So for next time, if you can find that ryokan, and then if you stand with its front door at your back, Mikado is just across to your left a little bit.
