When do you replace your strings?

Hello Bachi-peeps,
As the title says, I am curious about when people tend to replace their strings; when they show signs of wear and fatigue like a pale san no ito or frayed ichi no ito, or do you just wait till they snap.

I change them when they break and I cannot retie them. The only time I’ll replace them sooner is if I have a performance coming up and they look raggedy.
