Who can sing in apanese?

Hi!
I’m curious if someone of you could sing in Japanese.
If is someone capable, I’m curious to listen!
This doesn’t regard a specific repertoire, but I’m only curious!
Thanks!

Here’s my terrible go at it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AfQXZXIgCjI

What was it?

I really want to learn how to sing Minyo well. I wish there was more resources online, does anyone know any tutorial style video resources aside from Bachido?

I guess at the base level it’s all about using your core/stomach muscles then listen and copy/practice.

I just started regular singing lessons and I can see they will help me a lot soon. Here is a snippit I recorded for you although I’m not satisfied with my singing skill and I have to keep noise low here but I think it’s good to share since you asked.

I also remembered seeing Pat on youtube, he sings at competitions.

I think he’s good at singing minyo… since I don’t sing them, but I try to sing sokyoku ahahahahah!
I also experiment strange things, but I’m happy when singing!

A friend of mine is teaching me how to sing sokyoku!

I can sing but I don’t think I sound minyo.

Anyway, I didn’t mean minyo, but only “who could sing in Japanese?”

Same as Jacinthe for me. I know some songs in Japanese, but I don’t sound like a proper Minyo singer, or a good singer of any style for that matter. :stuck_out_tongue:

Singing in Japanese is different than singing in English because you can’t slur things as easily and have to keep better track of where the syllables go, but it isn’t at all hard in the least.

Folk and classical styles are not easy but nothing is when you start out. Just takes practice. I have never tried any type of minyo style, however.

i can sing nagauta style. i was taking lessons, but since i’ve moved away from Japan, that’s obviously had to stop… :[

Since I don’t remember your name (the person who sings nagauta), I’m very curious to hear you, because it’s very fascinating!
I didn’t ever try to sing minyo, but I tried to sing jiuta, and yeah, it’s difficult… but Sugiyama Yukie (my friend/future koto teacher ahahah) said I’m good!
Also, I tried to declaim katarimono (satsuma biwa?) a time, but the case was strange. It was a parody, but I put all my strenght… despite it was a parody… but I didn’t interpretate it as a parody, because I really want to declaim!

Today we made a strange experiment, transforming the jiuta kurokami in akatarimono!

I play and sing min’yo (poorly); but it’s a really broad class of music.

Every region has its own quirks and characteristics, so some may sound more or less archetypal.

Just gotta put your heart into it. S’what matters most.

I can’t sing minyo… yeah, I never tried, but I’m sure I can’t, and I know that, in there, no one (or quite) sings well minyo (except Takahashi-san), maybe

That makes no sense. What does it mean to “can’t sing” something when one has never tried?

With practice and work, most music of any kind is pretty attainable.

Just try! It’s fun.

There is absolutely nothing at all particularly special about any type of Japanese music at all.

It’s just like any other type of music out there. If you want to do something like it, you just have to work at it.

Working hard at music is fun and rewarding!

As you already know, I never tried to sing minyo, and I really don’t know how to start, since I don’t play shamisen, but maybe it doesn’t matter

Why not starting by trying it without anticipating what the result could be?
Maybe you’ll discover something you didn’t suspected about your talent.

And if it doesn’t work, at least you’ll tell you can’t from your personal experience.
