Join me for my shamisen jam

Hello, I am a new member of Bachido.

This summer I have started my shamisen project which I play along with my video everyday for practice.
If any of you would like to make a video response, that would be awesome.
Let’s share our idea. I would love to get to know you with your Bachi.

So far I created 7 songs to work on.
My first song “GAN KAKE”, I have 8 takes but I am not happy about any of them:

Looking forward to hearing from you.
Best,

ten ten from Canada

This is a great idea! I will jam along with you as soon as I get more time !

Welcome to the forum!
I really like the idea! I’ll try to do some jamming with you too!

Welcome to the forum, Aki! It’s great to finally have you here! (She’s a friend of Linda Caplan, and so a friend to us all!)

That’s very interesting! I will give it a try soon! It seems like a great way to practice, and reminds me of Kevin’s looping pedal which he uses for practicing… and this thing.

Of course, making a video recording is certainly an easier, less-costly way to practice that way.

Sao weet… video. Pretty cool !

Oh man; that’s an awesome way to jam out!
Thanks so much for sharing, and welcome to the forum~!

Hello Bachi Friends;
I wish I had a looping pedal or cool people to jam with!

I enjoy playing my shamisen but my neighbour complains.

Then I started using my fingers;

Think I made it worse… you can’t have shamisen without bachi!
Thank you all.

Aki,

I understand your feeling when you say "can’t have Shamisen without Bachi " but in another way…“Wow!!!” what you are doing with finger style approach is Fantastic. Reminds me of a flamenco guitar strum for a second. I must say I really love your music. Is everything you’re doing your original ? Wow! It’s very good. I am already starting to imagine plans in the future for producing your CD. Or arrangement of your music. Maybe sometime we can all collaborate together and make a collection of bachido members originals (Karl H. The pressure is On! Haha!) In that case we will absolutely have to include you! I’m also excited to meet you and play together someday.

Haha as I was reading uour post I started to feel bad for not presenting more original stuff. Then you mention that the pressure is on me! Gotta do something about it.

Hello again,
It’s so great that suddenly I got many shamisen friends in the world thru Bachido, yahoo!

When I’m happy, my shamisen sounds happy, too.
Here’s my song for today (ragtime-ish):

Yes, all my originals. I love writing songs.
All bachido video really inspire me. ARIGATO-, everyone.

I started to feel bad for not presenting more original stuff. Then you mention that the pressure is on me! Gotta do something about it.

Hahaha! I better crack down too. Every time I sit down for daily practice, a new melody comes to mind but I rarely develop it into something.

I’ve been really enjoying playing Dowland pieces on the shamisen, so perhaps next week I’ll make a little video of it.

Really nice melody, Aki!! Yeah, I hear the ragtime feeling!

When I’m happy, my shamisen sounds happy, too.

That’s how I’ve always approached playing any instruments. Just playing whatever emerges from the feelings of that day. When I was young-er, I would call it “moodle”. As in, mood doodling (doodling = improvising).

Here’s a question for you. Are you able to compose lyrics for your songs?

A few months ago, I came up with a melody I really liked and wanted to add words. However, I couldn’t think of any words which conveyed the feeling I had in the song. :-S Does that happen with you?

Time to record some improvs soon!

YES, I write lyrics!
I only do it in Japanese. Being a non-native English speaker (writing skills of Grade 6?), it would be challenging. But I’d LOVE to do that.
Sometimes a strong melody comes along with words: melody lines follow the rythmn of the way spoken in my case.

When I sing a folk song (Min’yo), I improvise lyrics, too!

This is my own folky J-pop with lyrics;

All the best.

いいですね! I love this song!

Aki-san, 日本からこんにちは!(Coming home today.) Great to finally see you here.

Kevin/everyone, Aki is the most creative person I know, not just with her shamisen music, but in everything she does! And Kyle, you should have her on board as “consultant” for any Bachido artistic/design projects. She’s just a wonder…

The singing really fits the music, sounds good!

Happy June!!

I wrote a short shamisen piece yesterday and decided to do a round like, “Row, Row, Row Your Boat”.

A bit loose but it was fun playing.
Now I just need a real person to make a round with me…

Linda-san, Welcome back to Canada! Let’s make a round of sound.

Aki-san, let’s do it! And let’s practise Kita no Hibiki for next year’s taikai!!

Linda and Aki! Go for it! Ganbatte!

HAI, GAMBARI MASU!
Until then, I’ll keep in practice.

Today I exercise my tremolo technique, using my finger…
Can I still be a member of Bachido?
