The nuSWAG Design Challenge 2015!

Hey folks! We’re well into 2015 and we’ve already got so many inspired Bachido members on board this year! I think it’s time to make some new threads to represent our passionate community in this growing world of shamisen!

That’s right, it’s time for another nuSWAG Design Challenge!

The winner of the nuSWAG Design Challenge 2013 was Bachido member Alessandro, who’s artistic masterpieces were proudly displayed on the shirt ‘Blossom’ and hoodie ‘Moonlight’!

Let’s see what we can do this year!

Challenge: To create a design for the next shirt. Any ideas are great! Whatever flows through your creative mind. It could be floral, abstract, fantasy (dragons, samurai 'n such), babes, whatever you want!

What to do: Create as many designs (sketch or finalized) as you want and post 'em here! The winner(s) are judged by group decision. In the last challenge, though many awesome designs were posted, the decision for the winning design was quite unanimous, as it naturally stood out as the most fitting for a T-shirt.

Prize: A free shirt with your design, as well as the glory of Bachido members around the world are wearing swag with your artistic genius displayed!

Note: We don’t have to settle on just one design. If there are several awesome ones, there will be multiple winners!

Deadline: End of May 2015 (which may be extended if ideas are flying in)

I look forward to see what you come up with.

It’s on!

Did Alessandro make the bachido text himself or is that something that is provided somewhere? It would be a good idea if entries used the same font so that the brand is more recognizable.

Ah, Ale had previously used a different, more bolder font, but we agreed to switch it to Maiandra GD, aka the “Bachido font.” That’s a good idea, future swag should keep the same font for consistency, unless the particular art is just screaming for a different font feel.

Has there been any entries? I don’t consider myself talented enough to make an entry but I might be able to inspire someone. A shamisen player looking towards the Japanese sunset while playing. I think it can be done with just one color and the background color of the clothes.

I actually made a few ideas with a basic application and my beginners talent in this field as I had some interesting ideas… I’ll try to post the links but I previously had problems with posting some pictures and images on the forum in the past.

I’m posting it right now in the hope eveything works well. (Please see below).

I like the colors of the last one . . .

Yeah. When I tried these colors, I though the same. I think it is really Bachido colors. It all depends if we want a small change or a big one for the design.

I have some ideas. If I can get some super extra free time I’ll create something cool. Give me a week or so…

Yeow, sorry for my sucky late response time, Chris. Yossha!! We’d love your input!! Please whip together your ideas when you have time! No rush!

Bachido member Joel had a terrific idea about making a Bachido tenugui/hachimaki! I have no idea why we never did this before, but I say it’s high time we did!

Jacinthe, Chris and others, if it helps to have the medium in mind, imagine your artwork being on a tenugui/hachimaki! I’m sure we can find people to make it. (and of course, I’ll send the winner a bunch of freebies!)

Bachi on!!

Hi, first time posting here. This is just an idea.

Wow Kristi!! Did you just make that??? That is TIGHT!!!

Thank you! I had so much fun this morning. I’m going to redraw it. He’s holding the bachi incorrectly. Oops! : )

Well, being that he’s only got a tail to work with, some incorrect technique can be forgiven.

That is really cool, Kristi. I would love to see that on a shirt, or something! (I wonder if it’s possible to get custom made shami-aloha shirts?) Let’s talk about it on the 8th!

By the way, do you add color to your art?

I’d like to see the occasional shamisen cartoon story now after having seen your great artwork style . . .

Kyle, I do color my drawings either digitally or manually (inks or watercolor). See you on the 8th!

B H, Thanks! I’m not consistent enough to do cartoon stories yet. Someday…

Reworked the dragon…

Oh my gosh, that is amazing, Kristi!!! How do you do it??

I love it! The color, the detail, everything!
What medium do you think would be best? A regular T shirt, or…?

By the way, I just got back from Japan. Let’s discuss more about this and the tenegui idea soon!

Yay! Thanks, Kyle!
